The Kingdoms Institute

Materia is working with a multi-disciplinary team to develop a landmark cultural institution for the AlUla Governorate, that is meant to catalyse the regeneration of an existing settlement within the Journey Through Time masterplan.

Commissioned by the Royal Commission for AlUla, the project aims to develop a global hub for knowledge, research and collaboration, exploring the frontiers of archaeology and unlocking new careers for the local community. The project is to include public galleries and a library to cast light on the valuable archeological collections that are being put together.

Adaptive reuse of an existing urban settlement and natural rocks of the area are leveraged during the development process in order to design an asset that can over time become the core of a sustainable community.
