GCC Town Urban Regeneration

Materia is working with a leading Cultural Institution and Kéré Architecture to spearhead an urban regeneration project centered around the town and community of an important pearl trading hub. The project encompasses the regeneration of the centre of town, through the development of a heritage trail connecting social infrastructure, important monuments, the old harbour and the coastal mangroves of the creek.

The design and development of a future Visitor Centre is meant to complement such regeneration plan serving as a focal point of the future cultural landscape. The local community, farms and businesses, together with leading creatives from the  wider Arab region, are involved in order to establish a footprint for a regeneration process that can learn throughout its deployment, incrementally being inscribed in the specificities of the local context.
